Sculpture is the second language of contemporary artist Igor Tcholaria. The same figures that live in his paintings — dancers, masks, women of myth — step off the canvas and take on volume, weight and a polished, almost metallic surface.
I am honored to present my work in the legendary gallery of Eric Mourlot in New York. For decades, the Mourlot family has played a leading role in the global art market. Its founder, the grandfather of the current owner, collaborated with Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró and many others — the artists who were my main authorities and teachers in my youth.
At the exhibition I present the paintings of my latest series “The Abduction of Europe”, as well as my sculptures. One of them, Obsession, concentrates the ideas of the entire series: fear, passion and hope as a mixture of ancient Greek myths and modern realities.
